Part of Isuzu's BD engine family, produced from the late 1970s through the 1990s and valued for its oversquare, low-revving design that favors strong pulling torque and long service life over peak horsepower. The 4BD1 is a naturally aspirated 3.86L direct-injection diesel engine with a 102 x 118mm bore and stroke, rated at 64kW at 3200rpm in its original 1979 form and 83kW at 3200rpm with 270N.m at 1900rpm in later tune, sold in Isuzu light trucks, marine and industrial applications and still supplied today as a replacement engine.
